Chameleon
About chameleon Many people believe that this is a special ability that chameleons develop to hide themselves in the wild. Many people believe that chameleons can perfectly imitate the background color of their local environment by changing their own color. Not all of these statements are actually correct. To understand these, we need to start from the fundamentals of why chameleons can change their body color.
Unlike most people think, chameleons are not "magicians" who can change their body color to imitate anything. In fact, chameleons' unique color-changing ability is determined by their unique pigment cell structure. Unlike most organisms, chameleons have two layers of pigment cells with different colors under their outer skin, and the pigment cells on the surface are like blinds that can expand and interrupt. When the surface pigment cells are disrupted, it is like the shutters are opened, showing the color of the lower layer of pigment cells; when the surface pigment cells are expanded, the shutters are closed, and we can only see the color of the "louvers". That is the color of surface pigment cells. If we understand the principle of color change of chameleons, it is not difficult to understand that chameleons actually have only two extreme colors: the color of superficial pigment cells and the color of basic pigment cells. These two body colors are inherent and cannot be changed. Their ever-changing body colors are essentially a combination of different expressions when the "blinds" are half open and half closed, that is, between two extreme body colors.
Many other people believe that chameleons consciously control their body color changes to match the color of the environment they live in. In fact, the changes in chameleon body color are largely affected by individual mood and health conditions. The control of factors such as this is not 100% restoration of the surrounding environment as most people think. Generally speaking, the color of chameleons is the brightest when they are in a good mood and do not feel any pressure, or when they are in estrus and showing off their color. Therefore, you will find that chameleons raised at home are often placed in the house or are showing off and showing off. Showing off time in condition will bring out the best in body color.
