Latin name: Cuora flavomarginata
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Creependa
Order: Turtles
Family: Chelonidae
Genus: Box turtle
Yellow-margined turtle, Chelonidae , box turtle spp. Mainly scattered in southern China, Japan and other regions, widely dispersed.
In 1863, John Edward Gray classified the box turtle into the genus Cistoclemmys; later in the early 20th century, researchers assigned it to the genus Cyclemys; and in the 1930s, it was placed in the genus Cuora. Although this statement has been criticized (McCord & Iverson, 1991), strictly speaking it has not been negatively criticized or excluded, and has been gradually accepted by researchers such as Iverson (1985) and Gaffney and Meylan (1988).
Huang Yuan has a smooth head and rich complexion. The sides are yellow or yellow-green, and the top of the head is olive oil or brown. The front end of the snout is flat, and the upper beak has a clear hook of the plastron. The carapace is dark and highly arched, with a light-colored lacing pattern (some have three) and some have a middle rib line (the middle line of the carapace). The color of the middle rib line will change with age. There is a ligament between the thorax and abdomen shields, and the front and back halves can be fully connected. The scales on the hands and feet are well developed, the claws are five in front and four in back, with undeveloped webs, and the tail is moderate. When the head, tail, hands and feet are retracted into the shell, the plastron and carapace can be closed tightly, hence the name "Yellow-margined Box Turtle".
Semi-aquatic (terrestrial) in nature, the yellow-margined box turtle rests on forest edges, weeds, and shrubs in hilly and mountainous areas, under tree foundations, in stone crevices, etc. Tranquil occasion. The sequence of day and night movements varies with the season. The yellow-margined box turtle is a mountain turtle and cannot live in deep waters.
