The body colors of fishing snakes come in a variety of colors, and the body colors vary. The more common colors include gray-brown on the back, olive green, tawny or orange, etc. It is not large in size, with a total length of about 0.8 meters.
The head of the fish snake is oblong, with a prominent head and neck area. There are black reticulations from the back of the neck to the tail, and there are eye-catching black spots on both sides of the reticulations; the pupils are round; the front end of the nasal tip scales is relatively narrow, and the nostrils are dorsal and lateral. The back of the head is grey-green, with a short black stripe from the eyes to the lips, a long black stripe from behind the eyes to the sides, and a "V" shaped black spot on the neck; the ventral surface is white or yellow-white or light green-yellow, and the base of the abdominal scales is black. The color makes equal and isolated black horizontal stripes appear on the entire ventral surface.
Note: "Red-spotted fish snake" is actually a red phenotype of the yellow-spotted fish snake.
