Temperature: Generally, water turtles will eat when the water temperature is above +15℃. The higher the water temperature, the greater the food intake. When the water temperature is lower than +5℃, they will gradually stop eating. After overwintering, tortoises can feed when the temperature is stable at +25°C. The higher the temperature, the greater the food intake. When the temperature is lower than +20°C, tortoises gradually stop eating.
Feed: The source of feed for water turtles is relatively convenient, including earthworms, small miscellaneous fish, shrimp meat, pure lean meat, loach, snail meat, pork liver, etc. It is the feed that aquatic turtles like to eat. Aquatic turtles have a habit of feeding. Do not change the type of feed from time to time. In short, aquatic turtles mainly use animal protein, so they require fresh and non-deteriorating feed. Tortoises mainly feed on plant protein. Melons, fruits, and vegetables can all be used as feed for tortoises. However, tortoises prefer scented feeds such as melons, peaches, etc. In order to increase protein for tortoises, in summer and autumn, You can also feed some fresh shelled edamame from time to time. Do not feed the fruits and vegetables that have just been taken out of the refrigerator to the tortoise immediately. It is best to leave them for 1 hour before feeding them.
Feeding: Water turtles can be changed half a month or irregularly in winter. The water temperature should be +10℃. Change the water once a week. +20℃, change the water every 2-3 days. The water should be changed once a day at +30°C, and twice a day at +35°C. The water should be changed without residual chlorine. Keeping the water clean is very important for raising aquatic turtles.
Aquatic turtles should also be protected from heatstroke and hypothermia due to high temperatures in summer, and they can bask in more sun in winter. There are many parasites in the body of tortoises. Newly purchased tortoises need to be dewormed once or twice. You can use deworming tablets. For tortoises over 500 grams, use half a tablet, 500 grams.Next, use 1/4 tablet, grind the tablet into fine powder, use a piece of fresh cucumber, remove the pulp, sprinkle the powder evenly in the melon trough and close the pulp. When the tortoise grows up, its appetite will decrease and its body weight will also decrease. In the Shanghai area, common tortoises can overwinter, but they must pay attention to heat preservation. After overwintering, in mid-to-late April every year, after the tortoise hibernation stops, the tortoises should be bathed in warm water to slowly regulate the metabolism of the tortoise and start eating as soon as possible.
